January Tips: Seasonal Planning, Stop-Doing & Sign Up for a Class!

Jan 8, 2025

Dear Together Friends, Fans, and Family,

Some of you are fully back in the swing of things, and others may have intentions for a gentle January. My Semi-Together flock of teens went back to school on January 2, but a rare DC-area weather event has us frolicking in 6 – 10 inches of good snow. Frozen pizza and hot cocoa for days! I am still firmly on Team-No-New-Years-Resolutions, but if you are looking for alternatives, here are a few ideas:

  • Make a list of things you would like to learn! I’m craving some YA books (just started this series), and Instagram is chasing me with cross-stitch kits! Considering I spent my high school summers as an arts and crafts camp counselor, I may lean in here!
  • Create a Stop Doing List. Oliver Burkeman discusses the value of the Stop Doing. One way to do this is to review your calendar to find anything taking time that you wish did not. . . and look for ways to eliminate it.
  • Create a Seasonal Plan. Cal Newport won’t write me back (Cal, are you there? We go to the same independent bookstore!), but I love the discussion of seasonal planning, especially for those of us who work on academic year calendars.

Anyway. . .  while this newsletter takes a rest in January (you can still find me on Instagram, LinkedIn, and our Together Forever Facebook group for past class participants), we wanted to let you know about 2025’s open enrollment Together Trainings. These online courses provide multiple weeks of Togetherness skills practice, connections with new networks of great people, plenty of jokes, lots of empathy, and practical tips to support your success and sustainability.
